In the early 1960s at Tokyo’s Bridgestone Museum of Art, curator Hideo Matsushita hosted LP listening concerts, where people would experience vinyl records played on high-quality audio equipment. Matsushita was moved by the positive reactions guests had to the music, but was frustrated that the expense of high-fidelity listening prevented many people from experiencing it.

In 1962, Matsushita founded Audio-Technica with the vision of producing high-quality audio for everyone. And following this vision, he soon created the first truly affordable phono cartridge, the AT-1, in the company’s small flat in Shinjuku, Tokyo.

Building on our passion for listening we have grown to design critically acclaimed headphones, turntables and microphones, remaining a family business and retaining the belief that high-quality audio should be accessible to all.

The BC Choral Federation encourages and promotes choral music throughout British Columbia. We are a non-profit association. Our members are enthusiastic singers, music educators, conductors, and organizations who share our belief that choral music is a lifelong joy, and should be accessible to everyone!

The Capilano University Jazz Program is a centre for excellence in jazz performance, composition, and music education.
We are a community of artists and learners who support each other in creative work and study.

The Music Diploma (Classical) Program provides a rich learning environment, which nurtures the artistic and creative potential within each student. The program integrates theoretical, historical and performance studies, offering concentrations in piano, voice, guitar, strings, woodwinds, brass, percussion and composition. Students benefit from frequent recitals and masterclasses on their primary instrument, allowing them to develop confidence and self-expression in performance. Small class sizes with innovative and creative teaching enhance the students' educational experience and prepare them for a wide array of professions in the music field. Participation in the University's award-winning choir allows for concert and touring opportunities, while developing ensemble skills and rehearsal techniques. This two-year Diploma is transferable toward a Bachelor of Music Degree and also provides the foundation for further studies in Music Therapy, Music Education and the Liberal Arts.

All courses in the Music Diploma Program are transferable to the School of Music at the University of British Columbia and to the Faculty of Music at the University of Victoria. Capilano University students have also received transfer credit to the following universities: Alberta, Brandon, Calgary, Carleton, Dalhousie, Guelph, Lethbridge, Manitoba, McGill, Regina, Simon Fraser, Toronto, Western Ontario, Western Washington and York.

Graduates of the program who have pursued further studies have successfully developed rewarding careers in the following fields: Elementary, Secondary and Post-Secondary Education, Private Music Instruction, Conducting, Composition, Musicology, Performance (Voice and Instrumental), Music Therapy, Music Criticism and Music Publishing.

The focus is on active learning through participation of both student and teacher while providing interaction and performances with adjudicators, clinicians and guest artists who represent the very best in music and music education.

The Kamloops Music Collective (KMC) is a registered charitable organization that works to support the music ecosystem in our community.  We offer year round music programming, and encourage participation in music making opportunities in Kamloops. The KSBC is a branch of the Kodály Society of Canada and seeks to uphold the vision of our national society.

Long & McQuade Musical Instruments was formed in 1956, when Jack Long set up a small store on Carlton Street in Toronto on the second floor of a house.

Long, who has a degree in Music from the University of Toronto, was a professional trumpet player in Toronto, and thought he could sell instruments to some of his friends in the music community.  His first official product line was King Band Instruments, which was followed by many others.

The store's floor was later divided into music studios so that Long could teach trumpet lessons on the side. About 6 months later, he rented out a room to a local drummer named Jack McQuade, who used the space for drum lessons.

In 1957, both Jacks decided to open up a small retail store on Yonge Street and named it Long & McQuade Musical Instruments. The partnership continued until 1965, when McQuade decided to pursue drumming full time and sold his portion of the company to Long.

Long & McQuade began expanding in 1968 and has continued to do so. Currently there are over 100 Long & McQuade stores across Canada, as well as an online store that opened in 2008. The company employs over 1,800 musicians and contracts approximately 1,000 music teachers across Canada.

To this day the entire company is still 100% owned by the Long family. While Jack is still involved as an advisor, his sons Steve and Jeff now run the day-to-day operations.

The SCA's BFA Music & Sound program is renowned for its innovative and experimental approach to music creation.  

This is an intensive program for those wanting to dive deeply into new ways of making and imagining music and sound, and to drive those discoveries through a generous dose of curiosity.

Our program seeks to empower those who don’t want to make music that’s already out there, and who want to form their own weird niche as part of a diverse community of alternative musicians. This is a program that makes real space for taking risks, channeling unique visions, and cultivating supportive community. Students come to our program from a vast array of different musical backgrounds and create a vibrant scene in which connections are regularly made across wildly different practices.

Our courses are designed to support students building a rigorously eclectic toolkit suited to their own expanding practice and to constantly evolve their tools, approaches to process, scope of creative possibilities, and their relationships to the worlds in which their work lives. We put great emphasis on collective spaces that challenge and foster this growth – students are regularly immersed in each others’ work-in-progress and play an active role in supporting each other in those processes.   

Projects often mix elements that can involve sound installation, custom-built instruments, traditional instruments, DIY electronics, radical performance, mixed-instrument groups, amplified objects, or musical robots (to name just a few). The constellation of elements each student chooses to focus on emerges by their own design and often takes unexpected turns over the course of the program.  

Given our position within an interdisciplinary contemporary art school, students have the rare opportunity to share active space with filmmakers, dance artists, performance creators, and visual artists, often leading to uniquely innovative approaches to collaborative and trans-disciplinary art making.

From their founding by the Knights of Pythias (1923) to their assumption (1960) and continued stewardship by the Kiwanis Club of Vancouver, the Vancouver Kiwanis Music Festivals have become BC’s premier music festivals; the oldest and largest of their kind in the province, and one of the largest Music Festivals in Canada. Every year over 4,500 music students participate across four distinct events – the Jazz Bands Festival; the Choral Festival; the Concert Band & Orchestra Festival; and the Solo and Small Ensembles Festival, which includes classes for piano, strings, voice, brass, woodwinds, guitar, harp and more. In 2009 we became a separate Society.  We gratefully acknowledge the continued financial support we receive from the Province of British Columbia through Community Gaming Grants, and now seek new community partnerships for 2026 and into the future. A charitable organization founded in 1964, the Victoria Conservatory of Music has served the west coast for generations, building a reputation of excellence in music education, performance, and wellness. A music centre for the whole community, we welcome participants of all ages and musical abilities, exploring their creative talents across musical genres and eras, supported by a range of instruments and technologies.

Each year, more than 4,500 students and music therapy participants engage in one or more of our five program areas:

A community of over 130 faculty members, representing a variety of cultures and backgrounds, teach voice/vocals, keyboard/synth, strings/e-strings, percussion, brass, woodwinds, theory, writing and arranging, recording and production, early childhood music, and more.

Yamaha Music Education programs began in 1966 in Canada and the Yamaha Music Education System has an enrolment of approximately 10,000 students taught by over 160 teachers in 50 locations from coast to coast. The National Education Department for Yamaha music education in Canada is located at 135 Milner Avenue in Toronto, Ontario. All national Yamaha programs are developed in conjunction with the Yamaha Music Foundation in Japan.
Yamaha Canada also owns and operates a corporate Yamaha Music School in Toronto. This flagship location is the national R & D centre and teacher training facility for Yamaha.
