Leading a PA program is about more than understanding accreditation standards. It is about leading people, navigating institutional dynamics, making difficult decisions, and finding your voice as a leader.
This interactive symposium is designed specifically for PA Program Directors. During this event, we will move beyond the mechanics of accreditation to address the real-world issues and challenges of leading a PA program. Through facilitated discussions, practical strategies, and shared experiences, participants will explore topics such as:
-
Engaging institutional leadership: Building effective communication and relationships with senior institutional officials and advocating for the needs of the program.
-
Managing and developing faculty: Setting expectations, addressing performance concerns, navigating difficult conversations, and building an effective team.
-
Finding your voice: Overcoming the fear of speaking up, asking difficult questions, and communicating concerns with confidence and professionalism.
-
Getting the support you need: Identifying resources, building internal support, and recognizing when and how to seek assistance.
-
Becoming a more effective leader: Moving beyond day-to-day program management to intentionally develop the leadership skills needed to guide a PA program.
-
Understanding the program director role: Exploring the responsibilities and institutional support necessary for effective program leadership, including expectations reflected in ARC-PA Standard A2.09.
The symposium will provide an opportunity for program directors to engage directly with ARC-PA Commissioners and staff, learn from colleagues facing similar challenges, and participate in candid conversations about the realities of program leadership.
