Q&A

1. Do I have to register for the Rez Dog Networking Conference, if I am only planning to get the Rabies vaccine?

Yes. Registration is required for all participants, regardless of which parts of the conference you plan to attend. If you only want to get your Rabies vaccine, you need to pay the $25 service fee, be a Manitoba resident, over 16 and affiliated with a rescue or shelter. If you would like to attend the seminars, you need to register for the conference and pay the $150 daily attendance fee.

2. Who is eligible for this Rabies clinic?

Anyone who lives in Manitoba, 16 and over and is affiliated with a rescue or shelter, including frontline workers, volunteers, and fosters.

3. Can cat rescue volunteers get the vaccine?

Yes! This clinic is open to people working with any type of animal rescue or shelter, not just dog-specific ones.

4. What does the $25 service fee cover?

The service fee covers the cost of booking your vaccine registration. The rabies vaccine itself is free through the Rabies Monitoring Program. This fee only includes the cost of booking your vaccine and access to the vendors. The service fee is non-refundable.

5. Is this a full series of shots?

This clinic provides the first dose (of a series of 3) of the pre-exposure vaccine. Follow-up instructions will be provided by Dr. Rusk and his team.

6. Can I walk in, or do I need to register ahead of time?

It is recommended that you register ahead of time due to availability and limited space.

7. I’ve already had a rabies vaccine, do I need a booster?

Possibly. Dr. Rusk can review your vaccination history and recommend if a booster is needed. Please register and Dr. Rusk's team will contact you ahead of time.

8. I’m not part of a rescue but I work with animals, can I still get the vaccine?

At this time, priority is given to individuals affiliated with a rescue or shelter due to limited supply

9. How will the vaccine be administered?

For this clinic, the rabies vaccine will be administered as a 0.1 mL intradermal (under the skin) injection, rather than the standard 1 mL intramuscular (in the muscle) dose. This smaller dose is still effective for pre-exposure protection and is used in public health programs to extend vaccine supply while maintaining strong immune response.
