Ally Yu is in her final year of Master’s studies at the University of Toronto’s Institute of Medical Science. Her research is supervised by Dr. Gary Rodin at the Princess Margaret Cancer Centre’s Department of Supportive Care. Prior to her Master’s, Ally studied neuroscience for her undergraduate degree at McGill University. A leukemia diagnosis after graduation shifted her research interest from the brain to cancer. Her personal experience provided a deeper understanding of the emotional and social challenges faced by young cancer patients and their families and their need for specialized psychosocial support. Her Master’s project is on a pilot trial evaluating a novel psychotherapeutic intervention for family caregivers of children with acute leukemia at SickKids. This intervention is called Emotion and Symptom-focused Engagement (EASE).
