EUROPE'S LARGEST ENVIRONMENTAL MARKETS EVENT

Climate Finance, Carbon Markets, and the Energy Transition

Join us for the 6th edition of the IETA-led European Climate Summit (ECS 2024), taking place 16-18 April at Firenze Fiera in Florence, Italy.

ECS comes at a key inflection point for the region’s carbon market.

  • How will the European carbon market evolve in its next phase, which starts in 2031?

  • Around the world, carbon markets are emerging at the fastest ever pace, with new emissions trading systems being developed from Brazil to Vietnam

  • More markets may mean more opportunities for international cooperation and linking, and some of these could come to Europe

  • The health of the voluntary carbon market is a hot topic this year, as the market works to overcome challenges

  • Environmental integrity and robust quality assurance are at the top of everyone’s mind, and IETA’s #ECS2024 will address these issues as well.

Join us in Florence to hear from and meet with policymakers, business and thought provocateurs who are leading the pack in building, scaling and collaborating on markets for net zero. Organised by IETA, ECS 2024 is an in-person event. The program features high level plenaries, inspirational keynotes, cross-cutting deep dives, interactive side events, and quality networking opportunities.

  • Global Carbon Pricing Challenge (GCPC)

The Global Carbon Pricing Challenge (GCPC) is a partnership of jurisdictions committed to carbon pricing, supported by key international organizations, through which expertise can be shared and received. The GCPC has a collective goal of covering 60% of global emissions with carbon pricing by 2030. Through the GCPC network, collaboration can flourish on an international scale, as Partners and Friends come together to share best practices for effective carbon pricing. The Challenge is a leader-driven initiative that sets concrete targets for carbon pricing coverage to drive action and greater ambition. It strives to improve understanding of the role of carbon pricing in decarbonization, its flexibility and adaptability as a policy, and its ability to support multiple objectives including economic development and equity. The Challenge supports the expansion of carbon pricing through high-level dialogue and technical exchanges to accelerate the implementation of new pricing systems.

Founded in 2007, the International Carbon Action Partnership (ICAP) is an international forum for governments and public authorities that have implemented or are planning to implement emissions trading systems (ETS). ICAP facilitates cooperation between countries, sub-national jurisdictions, and supranational institutions that have established or are actively pursuing carbon markets through mandatory cap and trade systems.
ICAP provides a forum to share and discuss knowledge and practical experiences with emissions trading and the design of ETS. Since its formation, ICAP has established itself as an ETS knowledge hub and its membership has grown to 33 members and 7 observers.
ICAP’s work focuses on three pillars: ETS knowledge sharing, technical dialogue and capacity building activities. This includes the publication of reports and knowledge products on key ETS topics, the organization of workshops and webinars as well as courses on emissions trading for developing countries and emerging economies.
