After holding senior leadership roles in the forestry industry, Pierre transitioned to the cooperative sector, serving as General Manager of the Caisses populaires of Mattice and Kapuskasing, and later as President and CEO of L’Alliance des caisses populaires de l’Ontario. He subsequently led two of the most significant co-operative initiatives in the history of this group: the simultaneous merger of 12 caisses populaires to form Caisse populaire Alliance limitée. Following the merger, he also oversaw one of the largest IT conversion projects undertaken by a credit union, successfully transitioning all systems – including core banking, online member services, loan origination systems (LOS) and back-office platforms – within a 72-hour window. Pierre currently serves as a Board member and Chair of the Audit and Finance Committee for Co-operators. He is also the Chair of the Board of Groupe InnovaNor, a not-for-profit organization providing work integrated learning (WIL) opportunities through its network of employers.     Previously, Farooq served as the Global Head of Technology Audit at Munich Re, one of the world’s leading reinsurance companies, where he oversaw technology risk, cybersecurity assurance, and global audit programs across multiple regions.
    Farooq was formerly the CISO for ORION, Canada’s largest research and education network, and the shared vCISO for Ontario’s higher education sector. He has also held C suite leadership roles in major financial institutions across the Middle East and South Asia, and earlier in his career worked with leading Big Four consulting firms.
    In recognition of his leadership as CISO of DIB Bank, he received the CSO Compass Award (2010). He was also honoured with the EC Council Presidential Award (2019) for organizing Canada’s first EC Council CISO Forum and championing the adoption of the Certified CISO program nationally.
    Farooq has delivered lectures at leading universities across North America and South Asia on IT assurance, information security management, and technology compliance, and has conducted numerous workshops in these domains.
    He has served on the Board of Directors of the local ISACA chapter and continues to contribute to the cybersecurity community through multiple governance and advisory roles.
