2026 Cow-Calf Management Tour

Beef Farmers of Ontario invite you to join us for farm tours in Lanark County and surrounding area. This event will provide an opportunity to learn from other cow-calf producers through farm tours and guest speakers. We look forward to discussing pasture research and management, genetic selection, strategies to prepare calves for the feedlot, marketing, and more.

Friday, August 28th 

12:15 pm Registration at the Holiday Inn, Kanata 

1:00 pm Bus departs hotel

1:45 pm Farm Stop 1

This family farm has a Limousin cow herd where they finish their own calves and process them through their provincially inspected processing facility. They also cultivate corn, soybeans, and hay, managing over 1000 acres of pasture and crops. This hard working farm family enjoy the opportunity to connect with consumers as they bring their home raised beef from the pasture to plate. 

3:30 pm Farm Stop 2

This family farm features a commercial cow herd in the process of expansion through support of the Beef Breeder Co-op. Their own calves along with purchase stocker calves are backgrounded in a newly built barn. This family also cash crops, operates a dairy farm, and has a seed dealership.  Discussions will focus on cow herd expansion, risk management, and a guest speaker on beef cow nutrition.

Saturday, August 29th 

Breakfast begins at the hotel at 7:00 am

8:00 am Bus Departs Hotel

9:00 am Farm Stop 3

This farm stop with feature a herd of 60 Hereford/Red Angus cross cows that calve in the fall. This farm family also grow corn and soybeans, as well as providing custom no-till planting, haying and combining services. This farm is proud to be certified with the Verifed Beef Production Plus (VBP+) program. Discussions will focus on rotational grazing with the use of virtual fencing, risk management, VBP+ and the Beef Breeder Co-op. 

11:00 am Farm Stop 4

This family farm owns a purebred Hereford cow-calf operation with a foucs on raising quality breeding stock. They are proud to be certified with the Verifed Beef Production Plus (VBP+) program and see value in quality assurance as they direct market their beef into the Ottawa area. Discussions will focus on best management practices, herd health and VBP+.        

12:30 pm Catered lunch at the Ferguson Falls Hall

3:00 pm Return to The Holiday Inn, Kanata

* This event has been approved as a Knowledge Sharing Event (KSE) for the On Farm Climate Action Fund (OFCAF) through Ontario Soil and Crop Improvement Association (OSCIA). 

Please note: For the safety and security of our tour hosts, we have omitted names and location details from the agenda above. The complete agenda, including addresses for tour stops will be provided after registration. Please contact Jaclyn at BFO if you have questions.

Full registration includes evening dinner and hotel accommodations on the night of August 28th, along with breakfast and lunch on August 29th. 

Slip on boot covers or boot wash will be provided at each farm for biosecurity reasons.

Deadline to register is August 14th, but space is limited, so we will close registration when spaces are full.
