Intro to Digital Dentures - How to make the switch to digital workflows, increase productivity and grow your business

Pam Rehm - Argen Canada

Want to make the switch to digital dentures? Not sure if it's "there yet"?  Or not sure how to integrate it into your current workflow?

In this lecture, we will cover all of these questions and more! Pam will provide a practical look at how 3Shape's CAD CAM technologies and the Trios 5 Scanner can be used to drastically improve efficiency in your clinic or lab without losing the high quality achieved by analog workflows. Traditional denture fabrication consists of 5-7 patient appointments; with the use of digital workflows, we can reduce that to 3-5 patient appointments. Implementing digital workflows can reduce patient chair time and improve lab productivity while still producing a high quality denture! We will look at digital workflows step by step for removable prosthetics for denture clinics and some real life metrics for increasing profitability in your clinic!

LUNCH n' LEARN:  Canada Digital Adoption Program | How $15,000 in federal funding can help modernize your business
Soumya Ghosh - MNP

Outline:

As technology advances, it can be challenging — and expensive — for small-to-medium businesses to keep up. That’s why the federal government is investing $4 billion to create the Canada Digital Adoption Program (CDAP). You can leverage the CDAP program to digitize and improve the following:

  1. Bookkeeping and payroll: Automate routine tasks such as billing and account reconciliations, enabling your staff to focus on more specialized tasks.
  2. EMR Conversion: Conversion of paper patient records
  3. Equipment Upgrades: Digital imagining, Invisalign & digital impression implementation, staff computers, servers, etc.
  4. Scheduling: Reduce the time required to resource your practice and improve visibility for your patients and team members to know when necessary team members are available.
  5. Patient intake, reminders, and check-in: Automate much of the patient experience and reduce the need for staff to input information or make reminder phone calls manually.
  6. Billing management: Invoice more efficiently and make it easier to follow up on outstanding submissions that have not yet been paid.
  7. Human resource management: Enhance people processes and make human resource management and the practice more efficient.
  8. Data analytics: Your practice collects a myriad of data that can improve the decision-making process. The right software can help you focus these insights to market more effectively, make informed financial decisions, create added value for clients, and much more.

Note, to be eligible for the grant, you must:

  • Be an incorporated business (either at the national or provincial level) OR a Canadian resident sole proprietor
  • Be a privately-owned, for-profit entity
  • Have a maximum of 499 full-time equivalent employees

Finding Your Workflow: Digital Fixed and Digital Removables

Michelle Glover - Dentsply Sirona

Digital technology has made a huge impact on the denturism business in recent years. Oral Cancer Screening the Need for Change

Wayne Reese - VELscope®

Bringing awareness to the escalating profile of oral and oropharyngeal cancers related to a common virus? According to the CDC, nearly all sexually active adults will have a HPV (Human papillomavirus) infection in their lifetime. This is fueling an escalating rise in the incidence of HPV-positive oropharyngeal cancer. By the year 2022, HPV-positive oropharyngeal cancer is expected to be the leading HPV-related cancer surpassing cervical cancer. The historic etiologic patterns related to exposure to alcohol and tobacco are declining, while HPV is becoming increasingly more common.

What are the implications to dental profession and how should our oral cancer screening be adjusted to compensate for this new profile? How do we communicate this to today’s dental patient? High risk extraoral and intraoral anatomical areas will be reviewed as well as identifying the subtle life-saving signs that accompany oral and oropharyngeal cancer that are so often overlooked.

Learning Objectives

  • To further explore the current statistics related to the sexually transmitted Human papillomavirus and its connection with oral and oropharyngeal cancer.
  • To review clinic studies including new research to better understand the efficacy of the VELscope®.
  • To work with the VELscope® and learn hands-on techniques to visualize oral mucosal abnormalities such as oral cancer or pre-malignant dysplasia.
  • To better understand how VELscope® can assist a clinician in differentiating traumatic lesions from lesions of a more serious nature.
  • To review how to capture white light and VELscope® Images for communication and documentation purposes.
  • To review and understand the considerations of using the VELscope® in clinical practice.
