Leaders, along with L&D professionals, often struggle with how to build teams in an organization where members are competent, confident, and willing to take charge in solving a variety of problems. Through a well-proven concept named Diversity Icebreaker, you will learn how to co-create a language of diverse perspectives that are relevant to learning and performance individually, in teams, and across the organization.
Behaviour Change: The Bridge to Measuring Impact
What happens when you shine a light on the change efforts of your participants?Drawing examples and evidence from two case studies of award-winning learning programs, we're going to explore how behaviour change can be the bridge between the participant experience and tangible impact on business KPIs.Through story, working sessions and group discussion, discover how a focus on behaviour change - woven into your discovery, design, delivery and debrief processes - can elevate your learning programs to key business priorities.Take part in a practical and inspiring session, delivered with Chris's characteristic wit and warmth, backed by Actionable.co's data from over 3000 learning programs.
PowerPoint and AI to Create Better Presentations, Faster
AI promises a revolution, and yet you're still using the same old PowerPoint? See how PowerPoint is incorporating AI and the ways it helps you to make better, more effective presentations, more quickly and easily. You'll see high level, all-encompassing tools, down to niche applications that can still have tremendous impact. This demo-led session shares some of the latest innovations, like Copilot, and a few surprises that have been hidden away for years. And as it's all live, we can all get involved in a bit of freestyle to apply it to the things you do every day.
Inclusive Leadership: Putting the JUSTICE in J.E.D.I.
By now most leaders are talking about diversity, equity and inclusion and sometimes justice. The challenge is moving from talking about it to actually making it happen. Each of our organizations is a part of the larger social culture we live in; like cells in an organism. If we think of culture as behaviour at scale, then culture change requires some pretty fundamental behaviour change as well. Not easy. This workshop invites participants into a reflective process, sharing of current data and trends, and a discussion about the realities of incorporating JEDI into organizational culture, the persistent barriers and deep change work required to actually have decisions and behaviours align with our organizational and personal values. The expectations on leaders have never been higher. We are in a time where functional or technical expertise or the ability to deliver results is no longer enough. The demands for emotional intelligence and leadership on issues of culture and social justice are now part of the game. It's both exciting and challenging. Leaders of the future will embrace this work and develop the skills necessary to thrive and help their people, organizations and communities do the same.
Practitioner Created, Research Validated Design Principles for Online Learning: Principles to guide quality policy and practice.
This session will showcase how the Design Principles for Online Learning have informed quality practice in K-post secondary learning in British Columbia and beyond. Develop your PROSILIENCE!
In recent years we have been inundated with information, webinars and blogs about 'resilience". And it's certainly been useful and applicable with the state of our communities and the larger world right now. As learning professionals and coaches, it's more than likely this has been a recurring theme in our practice. It certainly has been with my clients! The challenge is, by the time we're helping our clients to build resilience, we are reacting to the changes they are already in the midst of. Prosilience is about intentionally building the capability to deal with a range of challenges that may come our way. It's about being proactive with this work so that we are better equipped to be more resilient when the disruptive changes actually happen. It is about holding the belief that our clients have the seeds of resilience within and can learn to build and strengthen their 'change muscles' so they are able to thrive in a turbulent world. The Prosilience framework, developed by Dr. Linda Hoopes, outlines a set of building blocks and tools for systematically , and proactively, developing resilience.

How to manage expectations and diplomatically negotiate incoming demands on your time.
You're excited about your career in Learning & Development and the opportunities in front of you. Yet you're facing non-stop change and higher than ever workload volumes. The answer isn't to work longer, or faster or to try to do it all. Now, more than ever, we need to accept that no one - and no team - can do it all and make everyone happy. Simply adding everything to our to-do list is not a productive, or sustainable, approach. Navigating change means having thought-out, courageous conversations about what is, and what is not a priority with our teams and our leaders. "No" is the new "Yes" because it starts this conversation. This highly engaging session will provide you with practical strategies to help you and your team develop your skills around how to manage expectations and diplomatically negotiate some incoming requests. You'll walk away with: - Powerful questions to help you – and your team – proactively establish healthy, productive expectations around priorities and workloads. - A toolkit of other questions and skills to help you negotiate some of the incoming, changing demands on your time – some meeting invites, requests, etc. - positively and diplomatically.

How might AI affect your work as an instructional designer and L&D professional?
If generative AI can generate a course, what does an instructional designer do? Can AI teach a course? Can AI assess competence? If so, how? Can AI take a test for learners? Can AI write that test for instructional designers? In other words, how might AI affect the work of Learning and Development professionals? This session explores that central question. In the process of doing so, this session presents evidence that emerged in a research symposium at Concordia University in May 2024 on AI and its implications to instructional design and Human Performance Technology on ways that Learning and Development professionals already employ AI in their work, how they are likely to employ AI in the near future, and how they might employ it in the longer-term. In addition, the emphasis on Skills for Success (an I4PL research project) emerges from the human skills required to adjust to, and thrive in, work contexts that use AI.

Leading Self & Others Amidst the Tsunami of Change
Not only do we have to lead ourselves through a constant tsunami of change; but we also must lead others. In this highly dynamic and interactive session, Edmond will start by introducing the Six Change Personas™: Campaigner; Helper; Skeptic; Wind Watcher; Foot Dragger; Torpedo. Each persona is a manifestation of our true feelings about the change. As these feelings evolve, we naturally switch personas. Each one has a good side… and a dark side.Working in groups, you will be assigned a specific persona and ponder the following questions: How did you feel while adopting this persona? What was good about it? What was more problematic – either for you or the rest of the organization? What advice would you therefore have for someone wearing this persona? We will then turn the collective reflection into a "learning wall" with pragmatic take-aways for leading ourselves and others amidst the tsunami of change. To wrap it up, Edmond will share research data about the amazing influence we have on our respective teams as "Local Leaders" – formal or informal. He will conclude with an inspiring call to action.Edmond will deliver this session with the passion, humour and engaging style that are his trademarks.

Plain Language: The Ramp of Communication
Plain language is like a ramp on a building: Not everyone needs it, but everyone can use it. And it's definitely easier than stairs. Plain language makes information easier to find, read and understand. When people understand what they read, they need fewer explanations and make fewer mistakes. It saves people and government time and money and improves the accessibility of your content. Using plain language is inclusive. It's an issue of equity. Accessibility in all things — including communication — is a human right.
Plain language is a quick win when it comes to accessibility. What does that mean? With no renovations, policy change, or major decision-making, you can make a big impact on accessibility! No matter what your role is, you can write and speak more clearly. All it takes is willingness and practice to make the information and services you provide much easier for everyone to find, use, and enjoy. In this session, we demonstrate examples, and use case studies to deepen your learning and application.
