Since the launch of its first Landsat satellite in 1972, NASA has been mapping agriculture worldwide and providing key knowledge about the critical role that U.S. agriculture plays in the domestic economy and global food system. After decades of slow-but-steady progress, we are experiencing an international, trans-sectoral explosion in the use of satellite data and artificial intelligence for agricultural assessment. This presentation, Dr. Whitcraft will explore the evolution of Earth Observations and advances in satellite systems, computational environments, and artificial intelligence are enabling the field-to-global agricultural system to meet the increasing demands and challenges facing our world.
